The Rae Crowther Classic Two Man Pan Sled, also known as the Pan Sled, has been teaching offensive linemen the mechanics of blow delivery since 1932 and remains one of the most widely used sleds at the professional level. Its curved, narrow "pan" pads are struck with the same footwork, hip drive, and shoulder mechanics a player needs on the field, and because the base pivots, a sloppy strike sends the sled spinning away instead of driving straight.

That spin gives players and coaches instant, honest feedback: a well-executed block drives the sled true, while poor knee bend, weak hips, or bad footwork gets punished immediately. The sled works with one or two players at a time, so coaches can also set up head-to-head matchups and let linemen compete directly against a teammate.

Coaches use the sled to run a graduated teaching progression, from the pendulum swing and triangle strike through the hip roll, power step, and full one-man drive block, building each piece of a lineman's technique in sequence. An optional 85 lb. sand bag can be added to the pan base for extra resistance in advanced drills.

Key Features

  • Two pad options: E1 pad for shoulder and hand strike drills, E2 pad for a tighter hand-fit strike
  • Pan base spins away on a poorly executed block, giving instant feedback
  • Works for 1-player or 2-player drills
  • Powder-coated black steel construction, approximately 364 lbs.
  • Optional 85 lb. sand bag available for added resistance (sold separately)

The Classic Two Man Pan Sled weighs approximately 364 lbs. and is powder-coated black. It is available with E1 Enduro pads (standard, for shoulder and hand drills) or E2 Enduro pads (for a tighter hand-fit strike), in Black, Navy, Royal, Red, Green, or Gold. An optional 85 lb. sand bag can be added to the pan base for extra resistance.

  • Pendulum Swing: teaches linemen to strike a blow from an upright stance
  • Triangle: builds on the pendulum swing while keeping the shoulders square
  • Hip Roll: teaches hip snap and striking through the pad at a 45-degree angle
  • Power Step: drives the knee through the pad to simulate knocking a defender off the line
  • Position and Power Step: adds a directional step before the power step
  • One Man Drive: combines every step into a full 3-point-stance drive block

Instructional videos demonstrating the Classic Two Man Pan Sled and the full Crowther Progression teaching series are available from Rae Crowther on their official videos page and YouTube channel.

What's the difference between the e1 and e2 pads?
The e1 pad is a narrower standard pad for shoulder and hand strike drills, while the e2 pad provides a tighter hand fit so coaches can see if a player's hand placement is accurate.
How much does the classic two man pan sled weigh?
It weighs approximately 364 lbs. and is powder-coated black.
Can i use the sled with just one player?
Yes, although it's built for two players, most drills are run with a single player driving and controlling the sled.
