Most schools buy a batting cage reactively — under pressure, wrong spec, wrong dimensions, and the problems compound every season after. This guide is for athletic directors who want to...
Built to Your Gym
No two gymnasiums are the same height, and no divider curtain comes off a shelf. Send us your ceiling type, your span and your height and we will have one built to it — motorized or manual, mesh, vinyl or both, in your school colours. No size limits, no minimum order, quote back within 24 hours.
Ceiling type, span and height. Photos from the floor looking up help more than you would think — especially if the ceiling is complicated.
Your measurements go to the manufacturer and we come back with a written quote covering the curtain, the track and hardware, and freight to your ZIP code.
Approve the quote, send a PO or pay by card, and the curtain goes into production.
Fill in whatever you know. Anything you are unsure of, pick “Not sure” and we will work it out with you.
There is no stock size for a gym curtain — every one is cut and sewn to the building. Expect around 30 days from the point you approve the quote, then freight on top.
If this is a new installation the quote includes the track, connectors, roller wheels and end stops sized to your span. Replacing a curtain on an existing track is faster and cheaper — tell us and we will confirm the fit.
Both quoted separately from the curtain. Motorized curtains involve electrical work at ceiling height and are not a DIY job. Some manufacturers install directly; where they do not, we connect you with an installer. You will see the cost before you approve anything.
Everything about a divider curtain is decided by what it hangs from. Before width, before colour, before anything else, we need to know the shape of your ceiling structure — it determines whether the curtain can be manual or has to be motorized.
| Ceiling type | What it looks like | What it means for the curtain |
|---|---|---|
| Flat | Bar joists, I-beams or a flat deck running level across the gym | The straightforward case. Manual or motorized both work, and the track mounts directly to the structure. |
| Peaked or pitched | The roof rises to a ridge down the middle | The curtain has to follow the pitch, which means motorized — unless the track is dropped to a level plane below the peak. We will tell you which is cheaper for your building. |
| Irregular | Mixed heights, ductwork, light runs, structural changes across the span | Needs a look before anyone quotes it. Send photos and rough heights and we will work it out. |
Not sure which you have? Choose “I will describe it” on the form, add a couple of photos taken from the floor looking up, and we will identify it.
Most gym curtains are built in two bands: solid vinyl across the bottom where balls hit it, and mesh above that so air moves and the space does not feel sealed off. You can also run all of one or all of the other.
| Build | Where it is used | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Vinyl bottom, mesh top | The standard for school gymnasiums | Vinyl takes the ball impact at play height. Mesh above keeps airflow and light moving through the gym and cuts the weight of the curtain. |
| All vinyl | Full visual separation | Blocks sight lines completely. Heavier, and it stops air moving across the space. |
| All mesh | Light separation, practice splits | Lightest option and the most air. Does not block the view, so it is more a boundary than a wall. |
There is no fixed ratio. Tell us the vinyl height you want and the mesh makes up the rest.
Motorized fold-up. The curtain lifts and folds up to the ceiling on a motor, operated by a key switch or a push-button remote. Nothing is left on the floor and nothing has to be walked anywhere. This is what most schools specify, and it is required on a pitched ceiling.
Motorized roll-up. Same motor operation, but the curtain rolls rather than folds. It stores in a tighter bundle at the ceiling.
Manual sliding. The curtain hangs from roller wheels on a track and is physically walked to one wall to store it. Lower cost, no electrical work, but somebody has to move it every time and it takes up wall space when open.
If you are not sure, tell us how often the gym gets divided and by whom. A curtain moved twice a day by a custodian is a different decision from one moved twice a season.
Give us the measurements of the space. We will work the curtain dimensions back from them.
Yes. Every gym divider curtain is built to the dimensions of the building it goes into — there is no catalog size. Send us your width and height and we will quote it.
Around 30 days from the point you approve the quote. The curtain is cut and sewn to your measurements, then it ships freight. Some manufacturers run longer and we will tell you which one you are dealing with before you commit.
No minimum. One curtain or a whole facility, we quote it the same way.
Only if this is a new installation. If you are replacing a curtain on an existing track, you usually just need the curtain — tell us on the form and we will confirm it fits what you already have. For a new install, the quote includes the track, connectors, roller wheels and end stops sized to your span.
Yes. Logos and lettering are printed or applied to the vinyl section. Tell us on the form and we will ask for your artwork — vector files work best, but we can work from what you have.
Curtains almost always need professional installation, particularly motorized ones, which involve electrical work at ceiling height. Some manufacturers install directly. Where they do not, we connect you with an installer who does this work. Either way, installation is quoted separately from the curtain, the same as freight.
Manufacturers carry a wide standard range in both the vinyl and the mesh, and school colours are usually covered. Tell us the colour you are after on the form and we will match it to what the manufacturer offers, or send you the colour card.
Yes. Tell us on the form that you will be paying by PO and we will build the quote so your business office can process it.
